I’m Emily, a wife, mama, friend, doula, musician, vegetarian and experimenter in the kitchen. I grew up in Ohio, the land of OSU football, farms and endless games of corn-hole. After high school, I moved to Lynchburg, Virginia to attend Liberty University where I met my husband, Jon. We got married in 2013 and lived in a little guest house nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains where I nannied and loved on four precious little kiddos. In 2016, we moved to Richmond, Virginia. I was 8 months pregnant and no help in the carrying-all-the-heavy-boxes department. Since then, we’ve settled into our neighborhood and enjoy exploring all the fun restaurants, coffee shops and parks. I stay at home with my sweet little one year old boy named Leo and also work part time at a locally based e-commerce clothing company called Latched Mama. They make nursing friendly tops, dresses and pajamas for breastfeeding mamas and everything is SO soft!

After finding out I was pregnant in the fall of 2015, I couldn’t stop researching and reading. I was fascinated with pregnancy, childbirth and the miracle that is the woman’s body. After having fantastic prenatal care with my midwife and an empowering birth of my son, I couldn’t ignore the pressing on my heart. I was being called to birth work; to supporting women in the most beautiful yet vulnerable season of life. I am passionate about advocating for women through that process; from the time she pees on a pregnancy test to the much anticipated first glance into her baby’s eyes.

“For birth companions to simply be, to do nothing when nothing is all there to be done, to offer support without judgment, love without conditions — that is perhaps the greatest challenge and the greatest gift.” -Vicki Chan, Midwife
